Using literature to teach English is possible , because it allows us, not only to know the writers or maybe the history of some countries, also we, as teachers, can teach grammar or vocabulary in an implicit way. Also, students can develop their skills taking into account the methodology and the activities implemented by the teacher.
Nowadays, there are many activities that teacher can use in order to develop a literature class. Students have a lot of talent to create and perform stories, so teachers can exploit it, in order to change the monotonous way to develop a literature class (only read books and books). As a teacher, I would like to implement games, performances and use of technology to develop all my English class, because students love the diversity of activities.
I would like to work with children about fourth or fifth grade in primary school or maybe sixth or seventh grade in highschool, because they are children that want to participate in all the activities; they are more active. Due to my social work, I developed an interest to work with them. Talking about the material, I can design some worksheet, but the didactic material I can do it with my students in order to develop other skills or talents in them.
To conclude, we can use literature to teach English because it can cover many aspects such as vocabulary or grammar. Teachers can implement a big diversity of activities to activate and develop students skills.
